THE FORCE OF COMMITMENT

1. WHAT IS COMMITMENT?

Commitment is more than attendance.
Commitment is more than wearing uniform.
Commitment is more than answering “worker.”
Commitment is the total dedication of the heart, strength, time, gifts, loyalty, and burden of a believer to the purposes of God in His house.
A committed church worker is one who says:
“This church is my responsibility. The growth of this house concerns me. The progress of God’s work is my burden. I will not be careless in the things of God.”
Commitment is the force that makes a worker:
available, dependable, passionate, sacrificial, fruitful, and spiritually productive.
Without commitment, church workers become mere title holders.
With commitment, church workers become kingdom builders.

2. WHO IS A CHURCH WORKER?

A church worker is not just a person occupying a department.
A church worker is a labourer in God’s vineyard.
1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are labourers together with God…”
This means:
We are not working for man alone.
We are not serving because of eye-service.
We are not helping pastor as a favour.
We are labouring with God.
So, choir members, ushers, protocol, media, prayer unit, sanitation, children teachers, evangelism team, security, follow-up team, and all service units in HICC must understand this truth:
We are labourers together with God.
That changes everything.

Commitment is called a force because it pushes a worker beyond convenience.
It is commitment that makes a worker:
come early, stay late, pray deeply, Follow up souls,
endure pressure, serve faithfully, keep going when others are tired.
Many people serve when convenient.
But committed people serve because they carry a burden.
Nehemiah 4:6 “So built we the wall… for the people had a mind to work.”
The wall was built because the people had a mind.
Church growth will not happen by wishful thinking.
Church growth happens when workers have a mind to work.
Commitment is the inner force that gives birth to outward labour.

4. WHY COMMITMENT IS NECESSARY FOR CHURCH GROWTH

Church growth is not accidental.
Church growth is not magic.
Church growth is not the job of the pastor alone.
Church growth is the product of:
prayer, passion, burden, unity, discipleship,
evangelism, Follow-up, excellence, and committed worker
If workers are careless, church growth will be slow.
If workers are on fire, church growth will become natural.
Acts 2:46-47 “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple… And the Lord added to
the church daily such as should be saved.”
Notice:
they continued,
they were with one accord,
they were consistent,
and the Lord added.
God gives increase, but workers must provide the platform of commitment.
1 Corinthians 3:6
“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
There must be:
planters,
waterers,
labourers,
preservers,
builders.
Church growth dies where workers are passive.

5. JESUS: THE GREATEST EXAMPLE OF COMMITMENT

Jesus is our perfect example.
John 4:34 “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”
Jesus was committed to divine assignment.
He did not serve casually.
He served with urgency, burden, and focus.
Luke 2:49
“…wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
This is the language of commitment:
“I must be about my Father’s business.”
A true church worker does not say:
“Let somebody else do it.”
“It does not matter.”
“Anyhow is okay.”
“I am tired of church work.”
A committed worker says:
“I must do my part in the house of God.”

6. ZEAL: THE FIRE OF COMMITMENT

Zeal is spiritual fire for God’s work.
Psalm 69:9
“For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up…”
This means the house of God consumed David’s heart.
He was not cold toward God’s house.
He was emotionally and spiritually connected to it.
Zeal means:
you care whether souls are saved,
you care whether members are followed up,
you care whether the service succeeds,
you care whether the church grows,
you care whether God is honoured in the assembly.
A worker without zeal becomes mechanical.
A worker with zeal becomes impactful.
Romans 12:11
“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.”
“Fervent in spirit” means boiling in spirit.
Not dry. Not lazy. Not cold.
God is not looking for workers who only occupy space.
He wants workers who burn.

7. SIGNS OF TRUE COMMITMENT IN A CHURCH WORKER

A. Commitment shows in availability
A committed worker is available for kingdom duty.
Isaiah 6:8
“…Here am I; send me.”
When God needs help in His house, what is your answer?
Excuse or availability?
B. Commitment shows in faithfulness
Luke 16:10
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…”
Faithfulness is doing your duty whether people clap for you or not.
C. Commitment shows in sacrifice
2 Samuel 24:24
“…neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing…”
Real service will cost:
time,
energy, comfort, sleep, money, emotions, convenience.
